Literacy Advocacy Opportunity – Brooklyn

Hey NYC readers, here’s an opportunity to spread the joy of reading via the Books for Kids Project:

Books for Kids is an innovative project designed to promote literacy for children involved in Family Court cases in New York City.  Books for Kids provides some of New York’s most vulnerable children with opportunities to read and own their own books.

With children often moving from one foster home to another they lack the normal things other kids take for granted — stability, safety, a place to call home.  They are also at high risk for academic delays and difficulty in school.  There is so much enjoyment, knowledge and power to be had when a child steps into the pages of a new book. With your help we can provide these children access to the world of reading and to the myriad opportunities reading provides.

You can purchase a book for one of these children during the Court Street Barnes & Noble store’s Holiday Book Drive to support Books for Kids starting November 1. The store is located at 106 Court Street in Downtown Brooklyn.

If you are in the BK NYC area and can afford to purchase a book this holiday season, it would be greatly appreciated! Make sure you buy from the Court Street B&N in Brooklyn, and tell them its for the Books for Kids book drive. Shout out to my homegirl Ashley C. for passing this information along :)

Happy Election Day!
