Hey good people! Hope your weekend was the bomb (dot) com. Here are a few things going on this week that has the DopeReads office abuzz:
1. “Ghana Must Go“, by new author Taiye Selasi will be released Tuesday March 5. The description reads as follows:
Kweku Sai is dead. A renowned surgeon and failed husband, he succumbs suddenly at dawn outside his home in suburban Accra. The news of Kweku’s death sends a ripple around the world, bringing together the family he abandoned years before. Ghana Must Go is their story. Electric, exhilarating, beautifully crafted, Ghana Must Go is a testament to the transformative power of unconditional love, from a debut novelist of extraordinary talent.

I’m pumped to read this new author! It’s refreshing to see younger authors of color telling stories that reflect their experiences. Will you check her out??
2. For the DC DopeReaders, Politics and Prose is hosting Ayana Mathis, author of “The Twelve Tribes of Hattie” Friday, March 8. If you are in the DMV you should come through and show her love!

Laughing with Oprah. Like a bawse.
3. The DopeReads Pretension-Free DC Happy Hour/Book Swap is this Thursday, March 7. RSVP here. Bring a book and have a drink. Promise it’ll be all that and a bag of Lay’s potato chips.
4. This isn’t happening this week, but is well worth noting: according to Pitchfork, Questlove’s memoir is (finally!) coming out, slated for June 18th. Also, his fully bearded brethren from the Roots Black Thought has a memoir coming out too, with writer Jeff Chang. Excitingggggggggggg.
Ok, that’s I’ve got for now. What do YOU have going on this week??? Tell us in the comments section below.

Thanks for this! I am so there to see Ayana Mathis on Friday! The timing is perfect! I just finished a review of Twelve Tribes last night.
I know I’m excited
See you there!
Aww. I have to work on Friday. Hopefully she’ll come back to this area soon.
