[Inspiration] Langston Hughes’ First Published Poem, Signed

A little dopeness to start your year off right. This poem, for some reason, always stirs my spirit. And it’s pretty cool that the ‘decoration’ was done by none other that Harlem Renaissance artist Aaron Douglas. Creativity travels in packs, is my opinion. How are you getting your creative juices flowing this year? Who or what organizations are you connecting with to get your ideas jumpstarted? Hope you had a wonderful 2012 and are planning on an AMAZING 2013!

P.S. I think that last line in the poem will be my next tatoo.

  1. I love this. Hughes is magnificent. I also love this by Countee Cullen:

“I doubt not God is good, well-meaning, kind
And did He stoop to quibble could tell why
The little buried mole continues blind,
Why flesh that mirrors Him must some day die,
Make plain the reason tortured Tantalus
Is baited by the fickle fruit, declare
If merely brute caprice dooms Sisyphus
To struggle up a never-ending stair.
Inscrutable His ways are, and immune
To catechism by a mind too strewn
With petty cares to slightly understand
What awful brain compels His awful hand.
Yet do I marvel at this curious thing:
To make a poet black, and bid him sing!”
